I took an extended break from Netrunner for a number of reasons. The first, and the one most felt, is that I was simply burnt out. Up until 2023 I had been playing aggressively for about 7 years, both online and in card format. That's a long time to do anything, let alone a mentally stimulating (or nerve-racking depending on the game state). A friend in college introduced me to the game and I was immediately hooked; at the time the FFG card pool was still relatively shallow so I bought up the core set and data packs/expansions. and trying to make Blackguard work. In grad school there was unfortunatelyThe game had gone through significant changes through that entire time, thriving under FFG, suffering under FFG, rebounding under FFG, and ultimately being flatlined by FFG. I did take a brief break at the end of the FFG lifetime, mostly due to a poor meta where I lived at the time (maybe 3 of us total)
I was sortof the textbook picture of a LCG customer at that time: poor, looking to play other smart players, and poor.
